Enrichment - Gifted
“We encourage and challenge our children to develop their unique gifts and talents, to glorify God, to serve their neighbours, and to care for God’s creation.”
( excerpt from our Vision Statement)
We believe God has gifted all of our children in various ways in order to serve Him and others. Our school fosters an ethos of caring where character and personal wholeness and gifts are all important. Some of God’s children have strong academic abilities, some athletic, some artistic, and some relational. Some have gifts in more than one area, some gifts yet to be discovered, and some gifts that are buried under disabilities…
Our goal is to nurture and challenge students in a holistic way together with parents.
Some of the ways our students are challenged in enrichment:
- Our curriculum is designed so that curriculum projects allow more capable students to expand and deepen their understanding.
- Our teachers differentiate some instruction to allow for higher levels of thinking.
- Our music program offers a variety of choral, band and strings opportunities.
- Our exceptional math students in grades 7 and 8 can take “accelerated math.”
- Our gifted (and not so gifted) athletic students can test and stretch their abilities by participating in extramural programs.
- Our middle school students are challenged with service opportunities to develop the gifts of service and hospitality.
- Our special needs program helps to identify highly able students and propose activities to help these students reach their full potential.
- Our libraries promote stimulating reading programs.
- Our students with leadership abilities are given outlets to share their talents.
We also acknowledge that the school alone cannot provide a total enrichment program and that parent partnership is essential. Surrey Christian continues to explore ways to develop its enrichment programs. We welcome your inquiries about this area.
