International Students

We recognize that the world village is shrinking, that  the world community is becoming closer knit.  When we seek to “instill the sovereignty of God in all of our children in our community”, we believe that the entire Christian world is part of our community.  We want to offer the uniqueness of SCS to other children of other cultures as best we can.  We recognize our limitations, but we want to expand our limits, God helping us, because we believe we not have only much to offer, but much to receive as well.

Currently we have about 35 international students that are integrated in the regular classrooms. The students receive English Language Support 2 to 3 times per week from our ELL teachers and Learning Resource. We have an international coordinator that helps process the application forms as well as helping parents and students with questions or concerns.  Some of our other policies  are as follows:

1.    SCS will usually enroll up to two ESL students per homeroom at the middle campus (and one at the primary campus) provided all other regular conditions of enrolment are met.

2.    International students younger than grade 7 ought to be living here with at least one parent.

3.    International students in grade 7,8 ought to live with a member of the extended family or with a family that sends its children to SCS.

4.    The principal and/or ESL(or resource) teacher will determine the level of language proficiency of ESL students.

5.    The ESL students will be given help by the ESL teacher in SCS according to the needs of the student as determined by the teacher.

6.    ESL students will be exposed to the content of the regular curriculum rather than courses dealing almost entirely with aspects of grammar.

7.    SCS encourages that outside of school tutoring or academy ought to be done in conjunction with SCS curriculum and or homework.

8.    Every year the school will determine the amount of international student fees.

School Vision

The Surrey Christian School is a Christ centered community, which led by the Spirit, seeks to instill in all of our children the knowledge of the sovereignty of God.  We encourage and challenge our children to develop their unique gifts and talents, to glorify God, to serve their neighbors and to care for God’s creation.
