Our History
Our God is an awesome God. He is faithful to those who trust in His promises. With this in mind, visionary parents in 1977 undertook the challenge to plant a Christian elementary school in Surrey. Surrey Christian School is a daughter school of Burnaby’s John Knox Christian School which was begun by parents in 1955 who also believed that Jesus is Lord of all of life including education. Below is a summary of the history of SCS:
- On the first day of school, September, 1978, seventy two students were enrolled in grades 1-7 meeting in Johnston Heights Evangelical Free Church.
- April, 1981, a new campus consisting of six classroom and a library, was completed at 9115 160th Street.
- In 1986, the school became an independent association.
- Two classrooms and a large elementary gymnasium were added in 1987 to meet growing demand and the new kindergarten program.
- 1989, four more classrooms were added to house 90 more students.
- In the fall of 1991, six more classrooms and a new library was added.
- As a step of faith in 1997, the community built a new middle school campus at 162nd Street to meet the needs of grade 5-8 middle school learners. The original 160th Street campus became a primary school for grade K-4 students. The school enrollment was now at 520 students.
- Each campus has a capacity to serve 300 students with teaching and support staff of about 30 at each campus.
- Our God continues to bless our community. We give God glory for the great things done for our children.
